Puppeee, amazing distro for the eeePC, is released.
In the
puppeee home page, Jemimah wrote:
Puppeee is an ultralight, user-friendly Linux distribution for the EeePC
Puppeee should work on EeePCs with Intel GMA900, GMA950, and GMA3150 graphics cards. This is most 10 inch or smaller models. There is partial support for the 1101HA/1201HA with the GMA500 using Xvesa.
Jemimah has described Puppeee's development in the
Forum:
Puppeee comes with a custom ultralight preemptive kernel optimized specifically for Atom or Celeron processors - the result is fast boot time, high performance, and low power usage.
Download Puppeee and read the install instructions given in the same page.

Fatdog64 500 is Released
July 2, 2010 - Kirk and Jamesbond released Fatdog64-500 final. The release has matching PETs and SFSs.
The kernel is version 2.6.34 and the window manager is Openbox /LXPanel. Fatdog has always included the latest Firefox, GIMP (image editor), and KINO (video editor). Its default wallpaper is the classic Seagull that was with Puppy since version 1. Fatdog is traditional in looks but bleeding-edge in content!
Kirk wrote:
Xorg auto configures itself and the default keyboard is "US" and the default timezone is gmt -5. You can change these in the setup menu. The old xorgwizard is still there, renamed xorgwizard-old. If you want a detailed xorg.conf go to Menu - Setup - Xorg Video Wizard.
Firefox (and Xine) runs as user spot, anything you download goes into the Downloads folder on the desktop. At the first shutdown, after making your save file, you'll be asked if you want to move the Downloads folder to the same place as your save file. Most will want to answer yes to that. Fatdog64-500 uses many scripts from Woof, but Fatdog64 is not built using Woof due to Fatdog being 64bit.
Download the ISO from
ibiblio (click here to open the ISO folder). Additional packages like PETs are installed from the package manager, while SFS can be downloaded from
here - to use SFS, copy to /mnt/home and reboot (this assumes that you are already using a save file).
Read here about the SFS.

Quirky is Released - Barry's Testing Platform

June 5, 2010 - Quirky 1.20 is released. Get the
qrky-120.iso from
here and read
Barry's announcement.
Note: qret-120.iso is the retro version (using the kernel of version 4.3.1).
May 5, 2010 - Quirky 1.00 is released, a 106-MB test platform for cutting-edge features of Puppy Linux.
Q1.00 is a multimedia special that should be able to play most multimedia formats. It also supports 3G modems.
The Linux kernel version is 2.6.33.2 and the default window manager is Openbox with Fbpanel (JWM is also available).
The builder of Q1.00 is "Woof", Barry Kauler's scripts for building a Puppy Linux distro from another distro's binary packages. However, Q1.00 is "home-grown" as Barry used binaries that he himself built from T2.
With Q1.00 released, a home-grown Woof-let, other Puppy Linux devs can use its tested features to deliver new Woof-lets from mainstream distros, benefitting the user with a wide array of packages while keeping the OS compact.
See Barry's
announcement and go to the download folders at
ibiblio.org or
nluug.nl. Get
quirky-100.iso, 106 MB, md5sum = ed663f31c5ac2f4ae4819dcf3b8d2199

Go-OpenOffice Available as sfs4
Oct 31, 2009 - Forum member playdayz made available Go-OpenOffice 3.1.1 (see his
Forum post):
"If anyone is interested I made an sfs of go-openoffice 3.1.1. The hype is that it is faster starting up (it is fast in my experience), lighter weight, more compatible with microsoft office documents, and with a less cluttered interface.. This is No frills.. there are no menu entries or other conveniences. The desktop files for each program are in /opt/openoffice.org3/share/xdg, and you can drag them to the desktop for convenience. "
Important: Use only with Puppy 4.3.1.
Look here for an example of the use of sfs in PuppyLinux 4.3.1 (bugfix version of 4.3).
Download the sfs 163 MB md5sum 63c6a76d95a806c4c8ca9fc802585b35
Mirror with sfs3 (for Puppy 4.2.1 or earlier)

OpenOffice and C-IDE sfs for Puppy 4.30
Barry Kauler has built and posted sfs4 packages for Puppy Linux 4.30:
- OpenOffice 3.1.1 sfs 176 MB - Office suite that can open MSOffice 2007 files. See the Forum discussion (do not download from there as the format is for older Puppy version);
- Anjuta C-IDE 71 MB - development environment for C/C++ (For programmers only - use it with devx sfs).
To use the sfs, download from ibiblio and place in your /mnt/home directory (you must be saving files already to your data drive).
Start
Menu - System - BootManager and click on the "Choose which extra SFS" button.
Choose from the left box the sfs to be loaded and click the "Add" arrow to place it on the right box.
Click OK, reboot and start using the sfs!
NOTE: These packages will work only with Puppy Linux 4.30 and not on older versions. Also, you must be using pup_save.2fs, such as with live CD, USB or frugal installation, NOT full installation.
For full installation, mount the sfs by clicking on it and then copy the files to the proper directories of your full install. Click again on the sfs to un-mount it. Reboot or refresh menus. See also the SFS installer package for full installation here.

For "GO-office" version look here.
