About Puppy

This page is for those new to computers.
Consider studying the International Computer Driving License.
Understand the difference between software and hardware, the concept of files and folders/directories, the concept of an operating system and applications, the difference between a command line and a graphical user interface (GUI), where to find menus, the concept of a desktop (icons, taskbar, system tray, windows) and the difference between left and right clicking a mouse.

You can get Puppy Linux in a variety of ways. Puppy is available as a ready made CD posted/shipped anywhere worldwide∞ or you can download a CD image (ISO file) for free.

Turn on your PC.
Go on the internet.
Go to download the latest Puppy Linux
Download the latest stable Puppy CD image (ISO file)
Download the latest version.
To download click on the file.
A window will appear asking you if you want to open the file or save it to disk - choose save it to disk and save it on your desktop.

When using Windows
When using Puppy

Make sure your BIOS is setup to boot from your new Puppy CD
Booting usually requires changing BIOS settings

Press Enter (sometimes the CD has not started spinning yet)
Do a soft reboot (Ctrl + Alt + Delete) Sometimes part of the memory is not cleared
Turn off and wait 30 sec (time needed to ensure memory is cleared in some older RAM)
