I've been using LegacyOS off and on up until a few years ago (LegacyOS 1, then Legacy OS 2) until I started using it full time to keep from throwing out my Windows 98 box (450Mhz, 512M ram, 4Gig HD, 32Gig Usb flash drive, DVD-Rom/CD-RW.). The family member who gave it to me said they spent 2,000 dollars for it at the time, with only the best they could get for then (pre-2000). I have long since lost my Win98 CD, and 'XP' would probably give me a lot of 'hickups' along the way for this machine, so I did a little research on linux and tried a couple dozen live CDs, and Puppy Linux ran the smoothest (in ram). LegacyOS looked nice and had everything I needed plus it had the real 'deal-breaker' for me that I had with all the other Linux Distros; -Games! (-Usually not enough games (or none.)); I think if you are going to have all that useful stuff (-productive stuff), then by-god, you can make room for some games. How can you expect us Windows users to migrate to Linux without a good bit of recreation. -You can't expect the rest of the family to warm up to a 'Productive and virus-free' desktop that they are forever crowing about without something in it for the family... I've been using LegacyOS 1 (I prefer the lighter looking classic windows-like desktop of OS1 to the darker modern looking LegacyOS2, or 2.1) for a couple of years now, and honestly, I haven't found anything that even comes close; certainly not the bloated Ubuntu, which has gotten so SLOW and resource hungry that it has become a pitiful windows 'wanna-be' on older machines instead of the 'contender' that it promised to be. To be blunt, Ubuntu is so SORRY looking on older machines that it has set back Linux 15 years! A black hole that it will never get out of! If it won't run right on older machines, then what's the point! -Not everyone can pony up 400 dollars at Walmart for an E-machine. Simply put, then, the game is over. Its so BAD on slower machines that It makes Windows look better than it is! So much for PROGRESS... it's a step back as far as I'm concerned. Well this computer and a few others I have wont be going to the landfill for a long time thanks to LegacyOS. As for my Ubuntu disks..., well that's another story. -Thank you for LegacyOS! it's sort of, a better 'windows' than windows... -Chip in Ohio. (…less)

**Reviewers I need your Help!**
Legacy OS 2.1 LTS is an evolution of all releases that came before it. A review would boost awareness of what is a truly great Operating System for Pentium III based PC's and Laptops. Last review back in 2009 http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/teenpup.html when Legacy OS was known as TEENpup. If your using Legacy OS 2.1 LTS and want to spread the word so others can also benefit please ask your favorite Linux Reviewer to do a review. Please Note: Legacy OS is provided free of charge, I make no money from developing it. I'm asking for your support not to make me richer $0 times 10 or 10000 still equals $0 but to save still useful Pentium III PC's and Laptops from ending up in Landfill.

**I need your help to make Legacy OS 2.1 LTS Better**
I've taken Legacy OS 2.1 LTS as far as I can and are looking for Talented Programmers / Users to make it better for everyone. Any Improvements won't find there way in to a new release but will be provided at SourceForge with credit to the User who created them. Imagine Legacy OS 2.1 LTS as a Core to build on. If you've created a new Icewm theme your using on your install of Legacy OS and want to share for others to enjoy, here's the place to share. An example of what I'm looking for is the availability of Flashplayer 11.2 listed below. After Legacy OS 2.1 LTS's release a user provided a specially Hacked version compatible with Legacy OS 2 Series. Without this user taking the time to share I would never have known about its existence. It's now here for everyone to enjoy! Users over the years have asked for WiFi support and basically I don't have the ability to create the necessary drivers and system files to support Wifi anf WPA2 encryption. Trust me I've tried with little success. I need your help to bring better support for WiFi to Legacy. A link to the Puppy Linux Forum has been created to allow the sharing of Ideas, Patches and general chat. Find it Here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=769791#769791

{{image <img src="http://imageshack.com/a/img819/3557/sj5d.png" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/><br/> title="legacy logo" alt="5.2 logo"}}
Today sees the release of Legacy OS 2.1 LTS (Long Term Release) the final Series 2 release ever! While there won't be any new releases for the 2 Series you can still expect new applications will be added to the repository over time. In this release you'll find some new applications and a few that have been update like the Opera Web Browser. Those who are currently using Legacy OS 2 will notice an improvement in Usability / Look and Feel. A number of configuring applications that once looked more like scripts now look like normal applications. With over 200 menu choices for users to choose from Legacy OS 2.1 LTS brings together a collection of extremely useful applications that could make a Pentium III PC far more useful then a user could imagine. Install once and use for years to come.

To start things off Legacy OS 2 Gamer has been released. Months of testing and searching the Internet for Pentium III compatible Games has resulted in this release. From Card games to 3D type games like Prboom the open source release of the classic game Doom, this release will bring many hours of fun for families who can't afford Quad Core Gaming PC's and only have access to Pentium III and 4 PC's. Also included in this release is Opera 12 Web Browser with Flash for excellent HTML5 Internet browsing and [[Amarok]] Music Player to manage your music collection. Pentium III PC's make great Jukeboxes when connected to a Amplifier and a couple of Speakers. To complete this release and upcoming releases the look and feel has been updated. Just does tell friends how old your PC is and they'll never know. (Please Note: Legacy OS 2.1 Gamer is for PC's built from 2000 to 2006. While most of these PC's will run Legacy OS, due to the large number of variances in Hardware Specification not all will be supported. As Legacy OS is a free download all you have to lose is one blank CD.)
Applications like the [[ROX]] File Manager allow easy access to tasks by just right mouse clicking on a file.

**Legacy OS 2 Update: January 2012**
Hello to those coming over from Distrowatch, Legacy OS 2 was released in June 2011 and will receive some minor Updates / Bug Fixes in the coming months. Those who have been around Linux for a while get in the habit of expecting a new version of their favorite Distro to be released regularly, Legacy OS 2 is different. Legacy OS 2 is for old Pentium 3 & 4 PC's / Laptops which would otherwise end up in Landfill because their current Software for one reason or another has made them unusable. By installing Legacy OS 2 a user can bring new life back to their old PC / Laptop for use as a second Computer or for the children to enjoy for years to come.
**Repository of extra Applications to install**
Currently there are 60 Applications in the Repository including Open Office 3.1 & Adobe 9.3 PDF Reader as well as 45 extra Games for users to enjoy.
This small Repository will grow over time and also provide small Bug Fixes and Updates.
Just remember to download the package install guide first! It's one page with images and only takes 5 minutes to read.
The install process is simple once you know how and all I'll say is "Don't complain if you don't and stuff up an install".
You'll need to enter user = puppy and password = linux

**Update Packs**
From time to time I will release an "Update Pack" what is it?
An "Update Pack" may contain for example a newer version of Adobe Flash or an update of an Application.

Hello Everyone,
Today sees the release of Legacy OS Linux formally TEENpup Linux. After 8 months of development I am proud to now offer Legacy OS for download.
This release marks the moving away of Legacy OS from a teenager based Distro to a Distro which sole purpose is to rescue 5 to 10 year old PC's / laptop's from ending up in Landfill. To do this it has to be usable in a real world environment and provide compliance with current online standards. A user wants to be able to connect online and have an acceptable Internet experience. Legacy OS comes with Opera 10.10 Web Browser as default which is also the default Email Client. Some System Files have been updated to allow the current version of Adobe Flash Player 10.1, Java 1.6 and other required Plugins / Codecs to operate in what in reality is a Legacy Operating System.
By building on a system base that is now 4 to 7 years old, gives a User access to a base of System Drivers that are no longer supported by the majority of Linux Distro's available today. Because of the Legacy nature of the Operating System, a very large selection of useful Applications come standard with the Distro and most users won't feel the need to install any extra software. In this release you'll find no Open Office? Why? It was felt that Abiword and Gnumeric would allow a user to still write the odd letter and may be do a spreadsheet. Open Office takes up a large amount of MB's on the CD that could be put to better use. This has allowed the inclusion of a large number of extra Applications that would otherwise not find themselves included.
Legacy OS comes with a new Dark Look Theme as default. Both KDE and GTK2 based Applications and some Java Based Applications use this theme. Some will love it and some will hate it. So why the Dark Look? It was felt that a Dark Theme would appear more modern than the Light Themes that have been used in the past and to move Legacy OS away from the "Windows Vista" Look TEENpup 2009 Legacy had. A lot of testing was done during the development of this Dark Look Theme to make sure all Applications still displayed their font colors correctly and fonts simply didn't just disappear into the background. This is a "Long Term Release" and with this in mind has been developed for a user to install and use for 2 to 3 years before updating.

Simple, Keep old PC's /Laptops from ending up in Landfill while providing a fast compliant modern looking environment with a large range of useful Applications for Users.
**Who is Legacy OS / TEENpup Linux? Who creates it**
Legacy OS (formerly TEENpup Linux) is the sole work of John Van Gaans (known as "john biles" on the Puppy Linux forum) with advice from time to time from other Puppy Linux forum members. While Legacy OS relies on Puppy Linux version 2.14 as its base, it is far more than a collection of Applications thrown together. Over 3 years of constant development make Legacy OS was it is today! Don't believe it, here's where it all started.

**Legacy OS / TEENpup is Linux not Windows**

I started TEENpup with the vision to make it Windows like to attract Windows Users. I now come to realize that I was wrong! TEENpup is Linux not Windows and should never be. Linux offers a different way of doing tasks and if you are a Windows User expecting or demanding a "Windows Experience" from Legacy OS / TEENpup or any other Linux Distro, then forget it! Take the time to "Learn the Linux Way" it will grow on you and you then realize why all Linux users are so passionate about Linux. Linux gives you the Freedom to do what ever "YOU" want to do with your PC. It is a privilege to be a Linux User and I'll no longer disrespect Linux trying to make it Windows.
Legacy OS is the Seventh release with version 1.0.0 originally being released back in March 2007
**Update: 27-04-2010**
Base Lib glibc updated from 2.3.5 to 2.5 which now allows the latest Adobe Flash 10 Plugin to work with Opera 10 Web Browser which is now the Default. Seamonkey, Firepup and Dillo have been dropped due to age and other problems.
Open Office also dropped to make way for a large number of NEW! Applications ! You can copy Open Office files from 2009 Legacy or try an .sfs from the Puppy Forum if you really need Open Office. Abiword and Gnumeric can do most "Word" and "Excel" type tasks.
**Not heard of TEENpup before? What's it history?**
**TEENpup 2010 Mini Beta is the Sixth release of TEENpup with version 1.0.0 originally being released March 2007**

2. Watch AVI's with Smplayer which you might have downloaded with Ktorrent.
3. Watch Youtube Video's with Opera 10 due to the Flash Plugin being included.
4. Read an ebook downloaded in PDF format with ePDF or Kpdf.
5. Talk to friends with Skype 2.

19. Convert CD's to MP3's with [[KAudioCreator]].
20. Watch some Encrypted DVD's.
21. Install TEENpup 2010 Mini Beta from CD
Lastly don't have an External DVD Drive but would like to try TEENpup. Just boot TEENpup on a PC / Laptop with a CD drive and install TEENpup tp a USB Stick using the Installer from the Menu and then Boot TEENpup from the USB Stick on your EeePC.
OK so that's some of the stuff you can do with TEENpup. Personally as the EeePC was designed for travel, it suits me. Have a think about what you use your EeePC for and how TEENpup might fit your requirements?

Hello Everyone,
Release Notes for TEENpup 2009 Legacy: Today sees the fifth release of TEENpup and once again it’s still based on Puppy 2.14 Why? Well mainly a lot of old Hardware just seems to work with Puppy 2.14. This time the iso has grown to just under 700MB’s so that it will fit on a CD. As the focus for TEENpup has shifted to a Modern Operating System for older PC’s which most likely only came with a CD Drive, it was felt that a 700MB size limit should be adhere to.
Also to attract users from Windows TEENpup default color scheme has been modeled on some of Vista’s coloring. Also the way the menu Applications are worded might seem too simplistic for the average Linux User. It was felt that to win over new users; TEENpup’s Applications had to be as easy to access acceptable Internet experience.
Legacy OS comes with a new Dark}}
{{image url= alt=Excel Look Theme as default. Both KDE and GTK2 based Applications and some Java Based Applications use this theme. Some will love it and some will hate it. So why the Dark Look? It was felt that a Dark Theme would appear more modern than the Light Themes that have been used in the past and to move Legacy OS away from the }} {{image url=as was possible. To someone new to Linux and coming across for example Applications called GIMP, ROX , GAMBAS, KAFFEINE to name a few, might be put off even opening them and it was felt that what an Application did was more important than its name.
So this now leads me to some of the Applications included in this release. It was felt that Open Office should be included with its Help Manual as well as being the latest version at time of release ( 3.1 ) as a large number of users, use a PC for Writing, Spreadsheets and Presentations and anything less wouldn’t do. KDE’s similar Office Applications have been removed. A number of new KDE Applications have been added. Also Pdrive’s USB auto mount daemon has been turned on by default, detecting most USB devices that are plugged in. A lot of time has been spent fine tuning little details that make it easier for the average user to use TEENpup. Example: Seamonkey will recognize most common attachments in emails and open them when you click on them. No more searching through “bin” folders for the executables, which wouldn’t be a hard thing to do for a seasoned Linux user where as a Linux Newbie would fine it almost impossible.
Also there's something I created called "Magic Scripts" which is a drag & drop arrangement. all you do is drag & drop say an audio file or video file and it will allow you to convert it to another format, simple!
Also included is Chinese, Japanese and Korean font support for Seamonkey and Firepup.
Those familiar with some of th it will grow on you will be in and you then realize why all Linux users are so passionate about Linux. Linux gives you the Freedom to do what ever e Applications included in this release will find them to be an older version than is currently available, why? Well the main reasons are because their smaller, have less dependency and due to these reasons run faster on old Hardware and finally I can fit more of them in to the iso. Some users will feel I left out an Application which they felt should have been in TEENpup, well a lot of testing of different Applications was done over the last 15 months and for one reason or another it was decided to leave that Application}} {{image url=#8217;s which most likely only came with a CD Drive, it was felt that a 700MB size limit should be adhere to.
Also to attract users from Windows TEENpup default color scheme has been modeled on some of Vista out.
To those trying this release of TEENpup, I hope you find it modern, useful, reliable and most of all user friendly. Enjoy!

===Update: TEENpup 2008 was released on the 3rd of March 2008 and became available for download from Softpedia on the 5th of March 2008.
Since being added to Softpedia as of 15th of April 2008, TEENpup 2008 has been downloaded 5000 times. ===
**Have you tried TEENpup 2008 yet! TEENpup 2008 is a free download.**
**Bring back to Life that old Pentium III PC you have stored away!**
TEENpup 2008 may even run on older PC's then listed: Example a relative couldn't view her daughter on Facebook as her old 350MHZ PC with Windows 98 wouldn't install JAVA as the JAVA website listed the version of Windows 98 as not being supported. I created a special Live CD of TEENpup 2008 with JAVA pre-installed and now she can view Facebook. Now she is burning music CD's with K3B while still running Live from the CD. She has commented that TEENpup 2008 starts up faster than her installed copy of Windows 98.
**[[http://reddevil62-techhead.blogspot.com/2008/03/teenage-clicks-teenpup-2008-kids-linux.html See what the reviews think ]]**
Did you know TEENpup / Linux can also look after your Windows Operating System and keep it running better for Longer! How? Because TEENpup can run as a Live CD and comes with most required codecs / plugins for surfing the Web pre-installed. You can open your favourite websites like Youtube, Facebook etc running TEENpup from your CD/DVD Drive while Windows happily sleeps inside your PC never knowing it's even "ON". This should prevent those nasties on the Web from infecting your Windows System. Also one other advantage is that TEENpup will most likely be ready to use in less time then it takes to boot up Windows.
=====What is TEENpup Linux?,Why would I want to use it over Windows or another Linux Distro? =====
TEENpup is for the PC User who doesn't want or care about setting up Flash, Java, Realmedia. Just Like Windows they expect it all to just work. They don't want to go to say Youtube and a "missing plugin" message comes up, they just expect it all to work.
''"While TEENpup was originally created to appeal to Teenager Puppy Users looking for more appealing Desktop and a larger range of Applications to choose from, the goal now with each release is to create an inviting, easy to use Operation System for the average Home PC User."'' John Van Gaans, creator of TEENpup Linux

Looking for more Applications to use in TEENpup 2008?
Download them from here http://dotpups.de/dotpups/ (Note: While a large number of these Applications listed will run fine in TEENpup 2008, they were originally created to be used with Puppy Linux. As TEENpup 2008 has a larger base of standard system files over Puppy Linux on which TEENpup is based, installing some applications may replace some system files unique to TEENpup 2008 which could lead to problems later on. I recommend you try any of these Applications while running TEENpup 2008 Live First! to see if they work correctly before installing them if you have installed TEENpup 2008 to your Hard Drive).

====What's new in TEENpup 2.14====
- More usability in TEENpup for //everyone//, not just teenagers.
- More Codecs, Plugins, & Programs.
- Twice as many printer drivers (around 1500 printer drivers) as TEENpup 2.0.0
- Uses the CUPS printing system.
- Printing now works with the KDE Apps included with TEENpup 2.14 that didn't in TEENpup 2.0.0.
- Icons have been changed to look more inviting and pleasing to the eye.
- Everything feels cleaner and more professional.
I feel a Windows user would feel more at home with this version of TEENpup than the last 2 versions. If you take for example KDE's K3B CD/DVD Burner, it now comes with a whole lot more plugins than TEENpup 2.0.0 and would equal or excede even Ubuntu, Debian, Suse and a whole lot Distros out there at the moment. It's all about usability.
====Apps in TEENpup 2.14====
Even though TEENpup is only 404Mb big, it comes with a lot more apps than most 700Mb Distros do.
- **Digikam, Showimg, Kooka, VLC Player, Realplayer, Gxine Player, Kmymoney, gtkpod, VNview, Kpdf, XaraLX, K3B, Scribus, Abiword, Glabels, Konqueror, Qcad, Madman, Grip, Audacity, heroes, gtkpool, kpat, kpoker** and a whole lot more.
==Minimum System Requirements==
- 500Mhz CPU (Processor)
- 192Mb RAM (Update: After testing TEENpup 2.14 on a 800MHZ Pentium 3 PC with 128MB's of Ram it was discovered that TEENpup 2.14 is usable.) One discovery is that the system requires about 80MB's of Ram to operate while using any of the KDE Apps included in TEENpup 2.14 One advantage of TEENpup 2.0.0 / 2.14 is that unless any of KDE Apps are started, KDE and its underlying base / dependencies will remain idle freeing up much needed RAM on PC's with only 128MB's. This is just one of the reasons why TEENpup 2.0.0 / 2.14 use the ICEWM / JWM window managers and not the KDE window manager.
- 20x CD-ROM Drive that can be booted from (Testing has shown that a 4x CD-ROM Drive can also work.)
- Note: Apps like Gxine etc related to DVD playback, may not appear to work on older PC's with slow Processors and Ram Update 29th of January 2008 VLC Player has played DVD's on older PC's when Gxine Player wouldn't. Testing has shown that newer PC's with good Ghz for the Processor and around 256Mb's of Ram have very little trouble playing DVD's etc.

===What has TEENpup got to offer over the other 500+ Linux Distro's currently available at Distrowatch?===
- TEENpup is based on **Puppy Linux** and if you've ever tried Puppy Linux, you will know how free a system Puppy is.
- You can hack it to bits, no system manager stopping you copying in some system files like Ubuntu or Debian or Mandriva.
- You can experiment with a Puppy base system any way you like. Of course you will break a Puppy base system like any other Linux Operating System, but if most of your experimenting is while running from a Live CD, there's not much to lose.
Now back to TEENpup: if you're like me and have found Puppy to be too old looking and wishing that Puppy came with a good selection of the best **apps from KDE or Gnome**, looked as good as the other bigger Distros, but retained that **ease of use** for those new to Linux that Puppy gives, then TEENpup might just be for you.
How does a **Live / install Distro** that comes with **Flash, Java, Realmedia** and a whole lot more codecs sound? What about being able to **play those encrypted DVD's** other distros complain about and won't let you play your favourite movies, due to missing codecs? No problem here.
What about **quick boot times**? I run TEENpup 2.14 installed to Hard Drive on a 5 year old run of the mill PC and it takes about 33 seconds to boot up and about 7 seconds to shutdown. One thing I can't stand anymore is slow boot / shutdown times.
O.K., hopefully I've convinced you to try TEENpup 2.14 for yourself.

====''Why was TEENpup Linux created? Why another Linux Distro?''====
When I first discovered the Linux Operating System, I spent alot of my time trying many different Linux Distro's and found that one version filled some of my needs, while another filled others. I couldn't find a Linux distro that did every thing I needed it to.
Finally I discovered Puppy Linux and was hooked. It played Encrypted DVD's, My Winmodem worked. It was very quick and simple. (95-99% of Linux Distro's don't support Winmodem's by default.)
While I was very happy with Puppy Linux, I wanted it to be more pleasing to the eye upon boot-up, have more Apps (Packages) to be more useful to myself and my family. As I was running Puppy Linux on my Hard Drive, its size didn't matter to me. So I added more and more packages until I started getting closer to an Operating System myself and family could use ever day.
My niece's use to come around and always wanted to use msn and surf the net, I made them use Puppy instead of Windows and asked them for feedback on what they liked and disliked.
A few months ago I decided I would bring all my ideas together and create a version of Puppy Linux, I felt would appeal to Teenagers and those young at heart and TEENpup was born from that idea. I also felt that TEENpup should come with a lot of extra Apps (packages) already installed so someone new to Puppy Linux wouldn't have to search the forum and other places for Dotpups of packages they needed that weren't already in Puppy Linux. Also plugins like Java and Flash should be included and setting up your Printer should be as easy as possible.
So I thought about Java and how it's 85MB's installed and decided it was better to have a Dotpup of Java (25MB's Unzipped) included ready for installation as it would make the final version of TEENpup smaller and if a user didn't need java then they didn't have to install it.
I did the same thing with Flash, only this time it was to update it from version 7 to 9. I also include the "No Script" Plugin to stop Seamonkey from crashing as had been the a problem in the past since the release of Flash version 9 update. (Problem Fixed in TEENpup 2.0.0 which now has Flash version 9 as Default, no longer requiring "No Script" Plugin to reduce Seamonkey Web Browser from Crashing upon opening of websites containing flash content.)
While Puppy comes with its own Printer Wizard, it doesn't include many drivers (improved in Puppy versions 2.13 and 2.14 and TEENpup 2.0.0) so I decided to add the online Printer Wizard (TEENpup 1.0.0 only) from the Puppy Forum and there's instructions and a dotpup for that.) All can be accessed by clicking on the Icons on the right hand side of the Desktop.
As for the look of Seamonkey Web Browser I thought it looked plain and a bit out of date. What it had going for it was it had email and website composer built in.
As it is Puppy Linux's default Browser all plugins work, links work by default, all I had to do was make it look better with some themes and add some more plugins.
You will find an icon on the right hand side of the Desktop to access these themes and extra plug-ins. (TEENpup 1.0.0 only)
TEENpup 2.0.0 has a nice theme for Seamonkey installed by default.
====TEENpup 1.0.0====

====TEENpup 2.0.0====
Vision for TEENpup 2.0.0 based on Puppy 2.14
What I want TEENpup to become and offer the average PC User.
I believe an PC Operating System should be able to do the following by Default:
Connect to the Internet by Dial Up / Broadband
Surf all the Net including Pages with Flash and Java
Open Emails, Chat with MSN, Yahoo etc
Write Letters and do Spreadsheets, Paint, Photo Edit
Open different file formats like Powerpoint, Word, Excel, PDF's etc must be able to open Windows Formats.
Play DVD's CD's Windows Media, Quicktime, Real Media
Burn not just Data CD/DVD's but also Music CD's (Fixed in TEENpup 2.0.0)
Rip MP3's and have some compatabilitly with ipod's.
Open Photo's
Print
Come with some Simple Games
This is the Minimum requirements and TEENpup 2.0.0
TEENpup 2.0.0 has been released.
OK what's different this time round.
Well alot of KDE's base system has been added to TEENpup 2.0.0 to allow Apps like K3B, Kooka, Digikam, Konqueror, Kopete, Kpdf, Kolf, Kontact and more to operate with the JWM and ICE window managers.
We also have "LMMS" which is a music studio to allow user's to create their own music + ZynAddSubfx another music App.
To allow a user to build a CD library simular to itunes there's the App "Madman".
If you'd like to print out some labels with your printer, there's the App "glabels".
Also games like "kobodl", "Starfighter", "Lbreakout2", "Kpat" and more have been added.
While some Apps from TEENpup 1.0.0 were removed, alot like Grip, Scribus, XMMS, Gimp, XaraLX, Realplayer, Audacity, Qcad, VYM,
dosbox, XNview were kept.
Also Added or updated are "Linuxdcpp", "Gaim2", "Kino", "Prozilla".
My advice is to take a close look at "Digikam" as it does more than just transfer your digital photo's from your digital camera. It has the current up to date camera drivers installed and better detection of some cameras than gtkam. Also you may find your Scanner will now work with "Kooka".
I must warn you that while there is a lot of KDE in TEENpup 2.0.0, it is not the full KDE Desktop and some Apps may not have all functions working.
Printing may not work with some KDE Apps and you may need to "save as" to a file and use other Apps to print.
TEENpup 2.0.0 is alot more experimental than TEENpup 1.0.0 in the way it was created with alot of the Apps coming from many different sources and bugs are sure to turn up. Hopefully there won't be many.
Update: There is a problem with the Menu in TEENpup 2.0.0 which doesn't effect it while running from the Live CD.
Upon installing TEENpup 2.0.0 to your Hard Drive and installing more Packages, the Menu may revert to an earlier ugly version with alot of the Apps missing. to bring back the correct menu open "Home" and unhide the hidden files by clicking on the "EYE". Now open the folder .icewm and create a folder call "Menubackup" and copy the backup or old menu to that folder. Now rename that old menu to "menu" and overwrite the current menu. This will bring back TEENpup's correct menu. You will need to do the same for the jwm menu as well which you will find under "Home" (root) as well.
Sorry about this bug as it was only discovered after TEENpup 2.0.0 was released.
Update: The menu problem has been fixed. See Link to Forum
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=18744
Update: An Added Icewm Theme for TEENpup 2.0.0 which changes the top toolbar colour to black called ""IceVista3"". See Link to Forum
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=18936
Update: I am currently building the next installment of TEENpup and while it will be fresh and hopefully an improvement over TEENpup 2.0.0 it will still be based on Puppy 2.14 (See it more as an Updated, more Apps version of TEENpup 2.0.0)
Be warned its size is growning again. As I see or run into problems preventing a average PC user be it a Linux or Windows from doing their normal things with their PC, I have tried to find solutions to those problems which has increased the size again.
I'm also working on "Look and Feel" to attract EYE CANDY hungry Windows User's to Linux.
Even more now I see TEENpup as a single user PC Operating System. What this means is that TEENpup is now aimed at a family with a single PC who like to surf the net, play a DVD or two, burn a few CD's etc etc all the normal stuff a average Windows User would do.
I have no plans to make it into a SOHO System.

Also included in this release is Opera 12 Web Browser with Flash for excellent HTML5 Internet browsing and Amarok Music Player to manage your music collection.

In 15-30 minutes a user can install Legacy OS 2 to a COMPATIBLE 2000 - 2006 PC / Laptop and begin watching Youtube, playing MP3's etc which normally requires some extra install of so called "Restricted" pack. Now lets say a user has no access to the Internet for one reason or another and requires Codecs etc what do they do?

Legacy OS 2 fits on a CD so old PC's with CD Drives only can still use Legacy. What's the use of providing a Legacy Operating System on a DVD if the User can't run it?
I do a lot of testing of other Distro's to see what the world of "Open Source" is up to and not develop in isolation. What really disappoints me is how little is included in these so called Mini Distro's. A user has to spend hours adding all the Applications they need which in turn no longer make these Mini Distro's MINI !!!

Legacy OS Series 2 sadly won't run on all 1999 to 2006 PC's released. As Legacy OS is a free download all you have to lose is one blank CD. Try Legacy OS Live before installing to confirm compatibility with your Hardware.

Revision [21066]

Edited on 2012-03-19 18:22:27 by JohnBiles [Update on what's happening with Legacy OS]
Additions:
**Legacy OS 4 Mini is Here!**
Today sees the release of Legacy OS 4 Mini an Update / Replacement for TEENpup 2010 Mini Beta. Those updating from TEENpup 2010 Mini Beta will need to save any important documents, music etc to an external Hard Drive, USB stick etc as a full reinstall is required to update to this new version, sorry!
This release sees TEENpup 2010 Mini Beta rebranded to Legacy OS 4 Mini. Users now have a choice between Legacy OS 2 (Puppy Series 2 based) and Legacy OS 4 Mini (Puppy Series 4 based) depending on Hardware / Requirements.
New to Legacy OS, what’s with the name? Legacy OS as the name suggests is a Linux Distribution designed to run on obsolete Legacy Hardware. A User should be able to bring back to life a PC or Laptop running a Pentium III or 4 Processor. This release of Legacy OS is targeted at users running a minimum of the following: Pentium III 800Mhz Processor with 256Mb’s of Ram and a minimum of 4GB for the Hard Drive. Those with the last generation of Pentium 4 Processors with 1GB of Ram and a 40GB plus size Hard Drive will enjoy applications that open fast and run fast.
Another important aspect of Legacy OS is the way it looks. Just because you're using legacy Hardware doesn't mean it needs to look like it. Very few Users want to use something that looks like Windows 95. Legacy OS 4 Mini brings to a user a modern up to date Desktop with a Quick Launch Application / Information Sidebar unique to Legacy OS.
With this release come a large number of improvements which will provide the average User with a better overall experience. Legacy OS 4 Mini now includes Firefox and Opera by default. To make your online experience as enjoyable as possible, Adobe Flashplayer 11, Java 1.6.0_30 and a number of other Plugins and Codecs are included ready to go. No need to download anything once the install is completed. For Chat Skype and Pidgin are included. Transmission and Ktorrent are included for file sharing. Osmo and Kontact for managing Appointments, Birthdays, Phone Numbers and more. Amarok and Javatunes should be able to manage anyone’s Music Collection. Photo collections will be easily managed by Digikam. From playing CD’s to ripping them to MP3 it’s all included. Ebooks are covered by FBreader, Pdf’s by Foxit and Kpdf. Got a need to create some Graphics / Drawing apps like Qcad, Kivio, Kolourpaint, Inkscape, Dia, JFdraw, Kiconedit have you covered. Want to watch Movies on your PC / Laptop, Legacy OS 4 Mini comes with a large range of Multimedia Players and Codecs by default.
I encourage a user to spent time with this release, because only with time will a user discover how usable Legacy OS 4 Mini can be.

Legacy OS 4 Mini is not a replacement for Legacy OS 2 and is actually an update of TEENpup 2010 Mini Beta.
**What to Expect**
All Themes, Branding brought in line with Legacy OS 2
Updates to Flash, FFmpeg etc.
Firefox, Pidgin now included by default
Cleaner Menu
Karamba Sidebar starts by default

Legacy OS 4 Mini feels more polished over TEENpup 2010 Mini and should provide a more usable day to day environment for Users.

** Release Announcement for Legacy OS 2 **
After 9 months of development, today sees the release of Legacy OS 2.
With this release comes a host of improvements over Legacy OS. Many questions were asked about what makes a good Operating System. Users who have installed and used the previous release of Legacy OS regularly for a period of time will notice the improvements. I recommend everyone using Legacy OS to upgrade to Legacy OS 2. (Requires Re-install)

Where to start? The focus was to look at all expects of Legacy OS and make improvements.
We started by looking at the default Desktop and the gtk and kde themes it used.
It was decided to create a pleasant neutral look to tie all the include applications together. A desktop environment that was easy on the eye and usable every day. The look had to be usable for those who want or need to use Legacy OS 2 as their main Operating System.
While the gtk and kde themes share common elements, there are differences by design.
You'll only find one Window Manager (ICEWM). One icewm, gtk and kde theme. The goal was to keep it as simple as possible. We didn't want to confuse new users with multiple options.
Next was the look and feel of the applications. How does each application look to the user.
Does it look dated, what can we do to make it more visually appealing so users will want to use it. Can it be updated to a later version?
A large number of icons were replaced and for the first time new icons were created or modified especially for Legacy OS 2. Unique start up "Splash" imagines were created for a number of Applications.
We looked at ways of making it easier and faster to access applications through the sidebar, task bar and menu.
Where needed pop up messages provide unique information about an application to a user.
Applications like the ROX File Manager allow easy access to tasks by just right mouse clicking on a file.
Now it was time to turn our attention to the Applications included in Legacy OS.
Any application for one reason or another not up to standard was removed. Unused system files were deleted.
Archived repositories of many Distro's were searched for suitable applications. Forum's were searched back a number of years for lost and forgotten applications. These all had to be tested.
All the applications included in Legacy OS 2 were chosen for one reason or another. Yes we know there are newer versions available. What we looked for wasn't the age of the application but its usability, reliability and suitability on the Legacy Hardware this Operating System is designed for.
Applications New in Legacy OS 2:
asunder 1.6.2 (Music CD Ripper)
gwenview 1.1.8 (Image Manager)
k9copy 1.0.4 (DVD9 to DVD5 converter)
kadu 0.6.0 (Internet Chat Client for Linux)
kalcul 0.1 (Allows children to test their Maths skills)
kamix 0.6.6 (Sound Mixer will lots of options)
kdocker 1.3 (Docks open Applications in to the system tray)
kid3 0.5 (Edit/Rename MP3 song files)
koverartist 0.3.2 (Create CD/DVD cover art)
ksquirrel 0.8.0 (Image / document viewer)
kuake 0.3 (Pop down Terminal)
mandvd v2.2 (Video DVD Creator)
mrxvt 0.5.1 (Terminal)
multimedia converter 1.5 (Convert many Video/Sound formats easily)
oregano 0.40.4 (Schematic capture and circuit simulation)
pconvert v2.15-1 (Units Converter cms to inches, kmh to mph etc)
qalculate v0.7.2 (Units Converter cms to inches, kmh to mph etc and more)
quacc v3.5 (Home accounting software)
rekordmydesktop 0.3 (Record your desktop in to OGG format)
screensaver mu-v0.2 (MU's experimental basic Screensaver improved)
tuxpaint 0.9.14 (Small children's paint Application)
xvidcap 1.1.5 (Record parts of your desktop in to Mpeg format)
you2pup 2.1.4 (Download and convert videos from Youtube)
Applications Removed for the following reasons:
fluxbox 0.9.3 (To focus on one window manager only)
frostwire 4.13.3 (No longer connected to Host/Legal problems with files)
kooldock 0.3 (Again to focus on one window manager)
kover 2.9.6 (Replaced KoverArtist)
kuickshow 0.8.12 (Replaced by better Applications)
numerical chameleon 1.6.0 (Replaced by Qalculate)
showimg 0.9.4.1 (Replaced by better Applications)
grip 3.0.0 (Replaced by Asunder)
A number of files applications rely on have also been updating.
For Example: ffmpeg updated to 0.6.1 (A number of newer multimedia formats now supported)
The Hard Drive Installer has been improved within the original framework. Message boxes to guide a user through the install and rewording of the Installer should allow more users to successfully install Legacy OS 2 on their Hard Drives. While it's no up to Ubuntu standards, it's still an improvement over the Installer in Legacy OS.
The above processors were performed many times over and are what makes Legacy OS 2 our best release ever!
I hope you enjoy using Legacy OS 2 as much as we enjoyed creating it for you!
NOTE: THIS MESSAGE WILL CHANGE AND A DOWNLOAD LINK WILL APPEAR SHORTLY ONCE LEGACY OS 2 IS UPLOADED TO MIRRORS.

** Legacy OS Doesn't work on my PC? Why? **
During development Legacy OS is tested on 8 different PC's and 2 Laptops to confirm it runs with no problems. It appears from Feedback received that those experiencing problems may be using PC's / Laptop's that are "TOO NEW!".
The best PC's / Laptop's to try Legacy OS on don't have fancy Graphics Cards etc. Your looking for PC / Laptop that came with a 800 Mhz or greater Pentium III or 4 Processor (CPU), 256Mb of RAM and a 4Gb Hard Drive. Most basic PC's / Laptop's built between 2000 and 2006 should work.
Deletions:

**Not heard of Legacy OS formerly TEENpup Linux before? What's it history?**

The Bad News: If you successfully get it up and running, forget about using it Wirelessly (you may be lucky as minimum wireless driver support) or connecting your Bluetooth device to it. Also don't expect much luck with your Webcam either. Legacy OS isn't sounding that great is it! maybe its not for you.

**HOW YOU SHOULD SEE LEGACY OS**
Legacy OS has the most chance of working on a old PC / Laptop that came with a IDE Hard Drive, basic on board graphics and not to much else.
Expecting it to run on a modern duo core PC with the latest and greatest graphics card, Wifi, Bluetooth and have them all work is asking to much.
My advice is to seek what you'd think would be the best candidate for the nearest Landfill site and boot Legacy OS up on that.
The Good News: Once you except the limitations of Legacy OS you will start to appreciate what Legacy OS had to offer. Start by connecting it by Ethernet (Wired) once you have that up and running, you now have the perfect tool to do a bit of Web surfing, keeping up with friends on and Twitter, receive Emails, write a quick letter, create a 3D drawing, listen to MP3's, watch a few AVI's, download stuff the list goes on and on.
**See Legacy OS as a second PC for the family or child you wouldn't have because the budget at the moment won't extend to buying a new $$$ one.**
Don't have a second PC even an old one? Worldwide there are a large number of old PC's sitting idle just waiting for Legacy OS to bring them back to life. Asking a family member or friend if they have one tucked away, the answer might surprise you when they happily thank you for taking it, saving them a trip to the local dump...

**Update: 27-06-2010**
**Latest News: TEENpup 2010 Legacy Coming Soon!**
What to expect? Basically since the release of TEENpup 2009 Legacy a number of changes in Protocols on the Internet relating to Web based Applications included in TEENpup 2009 Legacy has occurred resulting in these Applications no longer working as expected making them obsolete. As TEENpup Legacy is a long term release, a Minor Update is currently underway which will see some Applications remove or Modified and others added. The base System will stay the same as TEENpup 2009 Legacy so if your Hardware currently works then it should work with TEENpup 2010 Legacy. (See Update News Below !)
