Puppy Linux IRC Transition Notes

A plan for what remains to be done to smoothly move the official Puppy Linux IRC chatroom from IrCQ-Net to FreeNode lead by J_Rey. Read the related forum post(s)∞ for more info on why we're moving.

  • update/revamp the wiki IRC page - DONE

  • get the forum Flash chat client∞ removed (it only works with IrCQ-Net) - DONE
  • J_Rey found out∞ from Polarhome that their CGI:IRC client isn't open to be used by other servers anymore because of abuse. - TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT
    • We could install CGI:IRC∞ on one of our mirror's server's if they don't mind because CGI:IRC is a great client, but uses an extra amount of resources when the number of users increases
    • JonathanMarsden installed CGI:IRC at a site just for this purpose at http://puppyirc.nfshost.com/cgiirc/irc.cgi∞ as a temporary measure. So far, resource usage is acceptable. This CGI:IRC installation has been tested with a variety of browsers and appears to work.
  • see if there is a another free web-based (PHP or CGI) IRC client available - PENDING
  • change the topics at IrCQ-Net to point users to FreeNode - DONE
  • remind the users at IrCQ-Net to come to Freenode - DONE
    • Being done on a semi-regular basis by J_Rey and other IRC regulars.

When the above are done:
