Puppy Community Edition Ideas

Put all proposed ideas for TalkingStick here. For inspiration there are ideas from previous Community Edition

Applications

  • Opera

Fully-featured web browser that is also small & fast
As seen in the Puplet NOP

  • Xfce∞ 4.4.x

Desktop environment that has many features expected in a modern operating system/DE/WM/GUI, but is small and light
As seen in the Puplet NOP

  • Wine∞ & Wine XS

Application allowing you to run many Microsoft Windows programs on your Puppy PC.
As seen in the Puplet Hacao

  • OCR software

Software that can turn a (scanned) image into editable text.

  • Conky

Lightweight program to monitor your computer's resources.

  • Text to speech utility

Flite

highlight the flite link and then go to Menu / internet / xwget
http://users.ecs.soton.ac.uk/wmd04r/puppy/flite-1.3.pet
and middle mouse button to paste
(I got garbage when trying to download from http / browser)
restart x (not required if using icewm) and use flite test.txt from the console - where test.txt is a text file of what you want flite to say.
or direct from console
flite "A sentence to speak."

Festival

Download (11 MB): http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Science/festival.pup
It is 34 MB extracted on your harddisk. (If you want it on another one, move and symlink /usr/local/festival)
Then in a consolewindow type: talk "this is a test. What do you think about it?"
It uses this synthesizer: http://tcts.fpms.ac.be/synthesis/mbrola.html
It uses this program to convert text to phonemes: http://www.cstr.ed.ac.uk/projects/festival/

  • 3D drivers

Nvidia drivers by Grey and the rest offered by Leachim

multiple window manager support

Drivers

(built in configuration of all drivers...through a gui or tui)
  • Ati Intel Nvidia and Via 3D drivers..
  • webcam drivers
  • scanner drivers
