Burning a Puppy Disc in Windows

The following page explains how to create a bootable Puppy CD from a Puppy ISO image within a number of different burning applications under a Windows OS.

Note: You should always burn an operating system CD at the slowest possible speed, to make sure it burns correctly. Select the 1x speed in your burning program.

Using BurnCDCC

BurnCDCC is designed JUST for burning ISO files. It is about 70k - quite a small program and has proven the most reliable means of creating a working bootable Puppy CD in Windows.

  • Click on the link above to download BurnCDCC to your computer.
  • Navigate to the source of the ISO you have downloaded from within BurnCDCC and follow the instructions.
  • There's even a quick video to demonstrate how to do it:

    Using Nero 5

Nero is a very versatile and powerful software suite which is often supplied with PCs or optical drives.

  • Open Nero and close the 'New compilation' window if it opens over the main window.
  • Click on ' Help ' and make sure that ' Use the Nero Wizard ' is ticked, click ' New '.
  • Click ' Compile a new CD ' Next.
  • Click ' Other CD formats ' Next.
  • Click ' Create a CD from an image file ' Next.
  • Click the ' Finish ' button and in the window that opens find the puppy iso, highlight it and click ' Open'
  • Set the write speed to 8x and click ' Burn '

Make sure you have a blank CD in the burner and Nero will now produce the Puppy live CD

    Using DeepBurner

DeepBurner is a very capable and powerful disc free burning application for Windows. It can burn data CD/DVD, audio CD or ISO images.

  • Download and install DeepBurner Free 1.9 or DeepBurner Free 1.9 (portable edition) from http://www.deepburner.com
  • Open DeepBurner
  • In the "Select project type:" window, select "Burn ISO image" and click "Next".
  • The "Burn ISO image" window will open.
  • Under "Image file:" browse to your Puppy ISO image and click "Open".
  • Ensure all other settings (disc drive, write speed) are correct and that you have a blank disc in your drive.
  • Click the "Burn ISO" button to start.

Hint: You may need to maximise the window to see the "Burn ISO" button.
Hint: If the "Select project type:" window doesn't open, just go to File > New, hit Ctrl+N or click the blank file icon on the toolbar.

Please feel free to add more burning walkthroughs for other software.
