The Puppy Working-Wireless-Cards Page

Most wireless cards are based on just a few different chipsets including Atheros, Broadcom, Intel, Ralink and Realtek.

  • D-link DWL-650 revP PCMCIA adapter works with linux-wlan-ng or hostap in Puppy 1.0x, works with hostap only in Puppy 2.x and card firmware must be loaded manually.
  • D-link DWL-G122 with rt2500 works
  • D-link DWL-G122 Ver. C1 with rt73usb works (it scans for networks, the lights flash but I don't have a wireless router to test the actual connection)
  • Ericsson HA691 (802.11b PCMCIA) works with the Atmel at76c50x module in Puppy 2.10.
  • Fiberline FL-WL420X (Cardbus), Marvell chipset, using ndiswrapper, works stable with Mrv8000c.inf for XP from the install CD. Supports WEP and WPA (Puppy 2.01).
  • Intel ProWireless 2200BG - downloaded ipw2200 linux driver from Intel site, put in / directory, renamed ipw2200-1.0.1 (leave off '.tar.gz so it won't archive)

  • Netgear WG511T only with great difficulty, using ndiswrapper; madwifi was not reliable. Search forum for "WG511T" for details.
  • Netgear wg511u can be added to this list. ndiswrapper must be used as madwifi doesn't seem to work, i think the process is not a major issue once i figured out what to input and when. i used the wifi beta file till i learned how to make the netgear files work.
  • Orinoco Classic Gold (proxim 2002 with antenna jack) SR02-1. autodetected 1.0.3
  • Prism - Many Prism 2/2.5 based pcmcia cards autodetected by cardmgr (edit /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts for automagic config)
  • Toshiba laptop (Satellite Pro 6100 with built in wireless card).
  • Toshiba laptop (Satellite A85-S107) using atheros iso, add 2 lines:iwconfig ath0 ....,dhcpcd ath0 to etc/rc.d/rc.local
  • Dell D620 laptop. The builtin (Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG) Chipset (ipw3945) works straight out of the box (Puppy 2.15CE)

Working Hardware

Youy can add a couple of wi-fi usb adapters to your list.  I have a D-Link WUA1340 working using the RT73 module and a Trendnet TEW424 UB working with ndiswrapper and realtek 8187b drivers.

I use both a homemade system  ( P-IV with a MSI motherboard and an old Compaq 5200 series with an ATI 9250 based card.  Both systems are running off CD, no installiation. with no major problems.  Have tried most releases sence 2.14 and several puplets.  have a lot of fun learning both what to do and just getting things to work.
