Barry: "I've been totally rewriting the remaster-cd script, integrating it with the PupGet package manager, so that users will be able to create a custom CD based on the current installation, but with any choice of pupget or dotpup packages.
I'm trying to make it as easy to use as possible, and I'll look at what you have done [AlienX Script], see if that can be integrated in as well.
What I have got my script doing is if you have installed any pupgets or dotpups, they will get placed into the live-cd, like they are part of the cd, no longer pupgets or dotpups, if you get my drift.
The script also allows for removal of packages that are part of the live-cd, so you can go "backwards" toward a more barebones live-cd."

Krazy Puppy is too krazy: Barry says (see main news page∞) "I've been working on a KDE version of Puppy, however I don't think I'll release a KDE-Puppy live-CD as such, maybe a PupGet package.
I did create a live-CD weighing in at only about 85M, with Koffice office suite, GuardDog firewall, KRecord audio recorder, Kate editor, KGhostview postscript viewer, KPDF PDF viewer, KMail, KNode, KPPP dialup, Konqueror, Kopete messenger, KWifiManager, K3b CD/DVD burner, Kolourpaint, Kaffeine media player, Kaboodle sound file player, Ksnapshot and Filelight disk usage viewer. A nice lot of apps, nicely integrated too, but I had to ask hard questions about what Puppy is all about, and how performance compares to the similar-sized OpenOffice . . ."

Puppy works underwater. Submarine team report:
image
"Puppy did excellent. In the two days when we were scrambling back from the depths of failure we had to classify everything in terms of what we had and what we didn't. Focus of your strength and compensate for your failure. The PC104 stack hardware, the Puppy OS, the java code and our engines were our pillars on which we managed to stage our comeback. From the first minute of radical redesign and on the fly engineering Puppy always landed in the "works" column."

"Our deepest thanks to you guys for making and working on this distro. When the going got rough last week we were able to heavily lean on Puppy and the stability we saw last year in testing reaffirmed itself under heavy fire.

It worked. At this point - after the last week - that is the highest compliment I give anything and Puppy earned it in a big way."

Good Luck to the Puppy Submarine∞ team
http://www.auvsi.org/competitions/water.cfm

"We selected Puppy for a couple of reasons.

Primarily we were looking for a minimalist install of Linux
that we could use in a very limited amount of space.
Alternatively (but not any less importantly) the puppy was just too damn cute not to use.

Puppy has been very stable, despite our best efforts to break it.
The distro is running on a PC104 stack located inside of a submarine tube.
There has been extensive hardware work conducted while the stack was in operation
and many abrupt shut downs. Despite our best efforts we only managed
to corrupt the OS once. Reinstall took less than an hour.
Any other OS (and our previous Linux experiments) corrupted on a regular and routine basis.

We are leaving for competition tomorrow morning. We'll let you know how it goes.
We just wanted to say thanks for providing an excellent OS distro
that has served as an excellent basis to work around."
